Metal Expands Its Intelligence Layer Into Round Collateral

As part of our consolidation strategy for fundraising infrastructure, today, Metal has launched a new platform for round collateral. In the below write-up, we provide an overview of how these new capabilities fit into our broader vision for fundraising infrastructure in private markets.

Behind the collateral

There is specific context within which founders share a pitch deck, a financial model or a round memo with an investor.

Sometimes, the most important context lies in a similar investment made by the investor in the recent past. At other times, the key context may lie in the founder's email, meeting transcripts or fundraising CRM.

Metal has created a context-rich environment that enables users to get much stronger feedback on their materials and how these are being received by key players in capital markets.

Founders can now upload and share content with investors via secured links (with analytics enabled on viewing data). As different investors view the content, Metal begins to connect the dots between the forward motion in the investment process and the most important context that precedes the company-investor relationship.

From tracking to intelligence

Let’s look at a specific example. John is raising a $3m seed round to build an AI-native recruitment platform. John can now upload his round collateral to Metal to share trackable links with investors.

When investors visit his round materials, John can track how much time investors are spending on various parts of his collateral. More importantly, however, he can benefit from Metal’s proprietary intelligence on:

Benchmarks for time spent on materials with other similar raise processes

Benchmarks for the raise process (such as percentage of 1st calls converting to 2nd meetings juxtaposed against John's round)

Prior objections from investors as per John’s meeting transcripts and email rejections data

Equipped with the above proprietary intelligence, Metal is able to bring sharp insights into how John’s collateral ranks against industry standards, and the specific improvements that can make a difference.

The road ahead

Our expansion into round collateral is a continuation of our strategy to consolidate fundraising infrastructure and to build the intelligence layer powering venture rounds in private markets.

With each passing quarter, advancements in the capabilities of underlying models are opening up new opportunities. In the years ahead, the process for raising venture rounds will go through a transformational change. Metal's intelligence layer is the fundamental building block that brings efficiency and precision to venture markets.
